The process is important if you want to drive more organic search to your website and increase your conversion rate.
Optimizing for the right keywords on your site allow you to rank on top of search results. The higher you rank on organic search, the more clicks you can get.
There are three primary variables involved in selecting the best keywords, namely:
- Search intent – Answers the question, “Why are people searching for this keyword phrase?” Can be classified according to informational, commercial, and transactional.
- Search volume – Shows the number of time people search for the keyword in a month. The higher the number, the better.
- Keyword difficulty – Reveals how easy or hard ranking for a keyword will be. Keyword difficulty is dependent on the top 10 pages ranking for the keyword. The lower the score, the easier to rank for the keyword.
Ideally, you want to find keywords with high search volumes and low keyword difficulty.
As for search intent, it depends on the site you are building. For instance, e-commerce sites need to optimize transactional and commercial keywords to hike up their sales. For blogs, informational keywords are in order.
However, it doesn’t mean that blogs and online stores can’t target keywords with other search intents. Again, it depends on the goal and objective of the website.
What is a Good Keyword Search Volume?
To be honest, the higher the keyword search volume, the better!
Referring to the latest Advanced Web Ranking CTR Study, the first position on SERPs generate over 30% of clicks from desktop users (23% from mobile devices).
And the clicks decrease as the position gradually moves down.
Using the graph, let’s say you are ranking on the first result for a keyword with 1,000 monthly searches.
That means you have over 300 clicks or visitors from organic search.
So the higher the search volume is, the better!
At least, that’s the simplistic answer to this question.
There are other factors to consider in keyword research that will help you determine which ones to rank for and optimize.
We’ll discuss them in the next section.
How to Find the Best Keywords for SEO?
Judging from the information above, does that mean that you should only target keywords with lots of monthly searches?
While targeting keywords that lots of people search could produce higher organic traffic to your site, it’s not as simple as that.
Repeat after me:
Keywords with high search volumes are not always the best ones!
Ideally, some of the best keywords are long-tail ones.
Long-tail keywords have a clear search intent and low keyword difficulty.
Granted, these keywords have low search volumes — each easily below 1,000 monthly searches.
However, and more importantly, they have high conversion rates!
On the example above, due to the specific search intent of the long-tail keyword “why are my tomato plants turning yellow,” it ends up asking a question.
Compare that to the other keywords in the image. Despite their higher search volumes, they don’t have a clear search intent.
What about “tomato plant” does the user want to know about?
And while “when to plant tomatoes” has a more refined search intent, the keyword still doesn’t have a clear purpose. Why is planting tomatoes on a particular time relevant?
Again, the long-tail keyword normally asks a question or has a keyword inherent in the query. And it is up to you to provide an answer to the question!
If your content ranks high on search results for your keyword, then expect more traffic and conversions to your website!

The traditional method of keyword research is good for brainstorming keyword ideas that you can optimize on your site.
Also, this approach works well if you’re not sure who your competitors are and just want a better idea of the available keywords for your topic or niche.
Using KWFinder, the By Keyword tab is selected by default.
Just enter the seed keyword here and press “Find Keywords.”
The other type of keyword research is competitor-based.
In this approach, you reverse-engineer the process by entering the URL of your competitor on the search bar.
Compared to the traditional approach, competitor-based keyword research lets you see keywords that your competitors are ranking on search engines.
Some would see that this method is much better than the traditional one. You get to see proven keywords that your competitors are ranking for.
All you need to do then is analyze which ones to use for your site and you should able to pull in the same audience as theirs!
However, you need to have an idea of who your competitors are. You can’t do competitor-based keyword research if you don’t.

On the left are the keyword ideas related to the keyword you entered in the search bar.
Each keyword is broken down according to the following metrics:
- Trend – See how the search volume for the keyword vary for the past 12 months
- Monthly search volume – Check the current monthly search for the keyword on Google search engine
- PPC – Shows the level of competition in PPC of Google Adwords
- CPC – Average cost per click in Google Ads
- Keyword Difficulty score – Produces an aggregate score that reveals how easy or how ranking for the keyword is
In this KWFinder review, I’ll only be focusing on the organic search aspect of the tool. Therefore, I won’t be talking about how to leverage the PPC and CPC data from the tool.
Now, to help you find the best keywords from the results, order the Keyword Difficulty score in ascending order.
Doing so will show you keywords that are easy to rank based on the algorithm used by KWFinder.
To do this, click on the KD column to organize the results. You should see something like this:
As you can see, it shows keywords with the lowest KD first. The score increases when you scroll down the results.
And if you want to check out keywords with the most month searches, click on the Search colum to reorder the results.
If you want to refine the keyword ideas, click on the Filter button so you can fine-tune the results to your liking.
If you click on any of the keywords, you will see more information about it on the right of the screen.
On the top part, you see the same information from the results section of the page.
But scrolling down further, you will see the SERP analysis overview. This is arguably the most important feature of KWFinder.
It helps you break down the results according to the top 10 pages ranking for it on search results.
Below are the metrics used in analyzing the top pages:
- DA (Domain Authority) – This Moz metric tells you the value of the domain as a whole based on the most relevant SEO factors.
- PA (Page Authority) – Another factor from Moz, it shows the value of the page in question and not including the other pages of the domain.
- TF (Trust Flow) – As part of Majestic’s Flow Metrics, Trust Flow reveals the quality of the page’s outbound links. If the page links out to relevant and authoritative pages, then the TF will be high
- CF (Citation Flow) – The other half of the Flow Metrics tells you about the link profile of the page. If the page’s link profile is composed of high-quality sites, then the score here will be high
- Links – Shows the number of backlinks the page has
- FB Shares – Reveals how many shares the page got from Facebook
- LPS (Link Profile Strength) – This algorithm developed by Mangools computes for the aggregate score of a page’s backlink profile. The higher the score is, the more difficult it will be to supplant it form its current position
- EV (Estimated Visits) – Gives you a monthly overview of the organic traffic the page receives.
The figures here will give you a very good idea of the keyword’s difficulty score.
You can even break the pages down further by clicking on the three-button icon so you can analyze the URL using other metrics, check out its backlinks, and show keywords it’s ranking for.
If you click any of these options, KWFinder will direct you to the right Mangools app to help process your request.
There’s also an option for you to analyze all the top pages in SERPs for your keyword.
Doing so will open SERPChecker, Mangools’ SERP checker tool, to help you make better sense of the results.
Going back to the keyword suggestions section, you can toggle the results to show suggestions from Google autocomplete.
If you want to see the keyword difficulty scores of search phrases suggested by Google Search, click on the Autocomplete button.

Upon clicking on the button, you need to create a new for your keyword list.
Once done, click on the Lists link on the menu to see the list that you can access anytime.
If you forgot what you searched yesterday or even just a couple of hours ago, you can check the History page.
Click on it from the menu to see what you’ve searched thus far.
It’s a straightforward but nonetheless useful feature that lets you keep tabs of your searches.

Pros and Cons
The intention of this KWFinder review is to help show you how the tool works and operates.
At the same time, this is my way of judging the tool for its own merits. After all, you don’t want to use a keyword research tool that sucks.
However, I’m happy to report that KWFinder doesn’t suck at all. It may not be the perfect tool for everyone, but it’s good enough to help people find the keywords they’re looking for.
To help you understand what I mean, below are the pros and cons of the tool:
PRO: Lightweight and ultra-fast
KWFinder never fails to amaze me on how fast it loads the keyword data and suggestions. The tool doesn’t lag at all and you’re sure to get the results without fail. And the keyword difficulty scores of the keywords load instantaneously once the search is done. No need for you to manually check them yourself one by one!
CON: Limited keyword results
At 700 results maximum (200 for Mangools Basic) for every search query, KWFinder may not produce the most comprehensive keyword suggestions at your disposal. You’ll be forced to use another tool to extract new keyword ideas and import them to the tool if you want to research for more keywords.
PRO: Easy to use
