By the end of this post, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the software — and your competitors. If you play your cards right, the upper hand in competitor research is yours!

Now, let’s get to it, shall we?

INTERFACE

Competitors.app’s interface, while clean, is too simple. Clean with no distractions. But, no visual appeal there either.

USEFULNESS

It’s the ideal all-in-one solution for competitive analysis. Competitors.app will notify you of every move your competitor makes.

USABILITY

Want a seamless collaborative process? It sends notifications directly to your email and integrates with Slack and Zapier, too.

EFFECTIVENESS

It can give you a significant edge over your competitor. You can track all marketing activities — even their follower count.

What is Competitors.app?

Competitors.app is a competitor monitoring software. It tracks every marketing strategy of your competitors. This includes reports about their social activities to updates on their websites.

The premise of this tool is to help you monitor your competitors with minor time investment. Five minutes per week is the ideal allotment for this. And fortunately, it sticks to the goal by compiling your competitor’s moves and putting them in one place.

Familiar with a useful SEO tool called Monitor Backlinks? Well, the man behind that product, Razvan Girmacea, is also the genius behind this tool.

Features

Thanks to its powerful features, promising companies continue to use Competitors.app. Share Talk and Think Accelerate are two of these companies.

Here’s a list of the tool’s core features:

Detect latest competitor activity

Once you specify a competitor’s domain, the monitoring software keeps tabs on that competitor right then and there.

For example, new blog posts or different keywords to rank for? Competitors.app can notify you of these changes. To make it happen, it goes through a plethora of marketing channels.

In the image below, you can find the marketing channels that are part of its radar.

Marketing Channels

Now, let’s talk beyond monitoring new blog posts and tracking different keywords. Among the things it can also do are:

  • Detect new competitors – Find new competitors as the tool reviews the marketing activities of the ones you provided
  • Monitor competitor’s Google Ads – Learn new techniques, latest keywords, and more that your competitors are using on their ads
  • Identify changes to SEO elements – Did your competitor change their website’s page title and meta description, for example? If they make even the slightest change to their website SEO elements, you’ll receive a notification.

Plus, Competitors.app also sends you email updates about relevant competitor monitoring news. Just set your preferences and provide a working email address to receive this news.

To learn more about this, just refer to the following image.

How does Competitors.app work?

The effectiveness of Competitors.app for competitive analysis is unquestionable. Based on that you’d think using it amounts to rocket science. Well, that’s where you’re mistaken.

Let me give you a walkthrough of how it works. Just sign up for an account with your email address. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

Step # 1 – Add your domain

Add Your Domain

Once logged in, you’ll land on a page where you need to provide your domain’s information. By then, you also must provide supplemental information for a more effective analysis.

You have the option to enter this information manually. Competitors.app can also do it for you.

The moment you specify your domain, the tool automatically fetches supplemental details. This includes your blog’s name, a keyword list, and social media accounts associated with a domain.

As you can notice from the following image, you’ll need to specify a locale, blog, and Facebook Page. Well, these are among the details Competitors.app can retrieve automatically.

So, quickly review these details to make sure they’re correct. Once finished, save the changes and move on to the next page.

Step # 2 – Add your competitor’s domain

Like you did earlier with your own domain, provide your competitor’s domain.

And just like what it did after you specified your domain, Competitors.app will also fetch essential details from your competitor. Apart from their blog’s name and social media accounts, the tool will also provide you with a list of URLs.

To show you an example, Competitors.app provided me with up to 25 URLs based on a competitor’s domain (https://rover.com).

url

This list of URLs, under Website Change Monitoring, are web pages and posts that the tool will monitor.

Below this section, you’ll find details about your competitor’s email based on the email address they used when registering their domain. If you want to know associations with your competitor’s email accounts, you’ll find them here. Review this information, and once you’re done, click Finish.

At this point, you’re good to go where you set up your domain and your competitor’s domain are. If you want to monitor another competitor, click Add another competitor. Then, just repeat the process above.

Other options also include Add a new domain and Edit current domain

Dashboard

Step # 3 – Access the tool’s functions (at the sidebar)

This includes the Timeline, Dashboard, Traffic, Keywords, and Affiliate.

Dashboard

When launching the tool’s Timeline, you’ll get a lowdown of your competitor’s performance over a certain period.

Take the image below, for example. In it, you can see that Competitors.app detected “6 new web pages” from a competitor (lg.com).

Dashboard

Then, when accessing the Dashboard, you will see all of your competitor’s activity. Check out the image below to know what this area looks like.

Dashboard

Next, when you open the Traffic option, you’ll see an overview of the traffic that your competitor generates. As you can see from the sample image below, you can discover the Estimated Monthly Visits that competing websites receive.

When you launch the Keywords section, you can access these three sub-sections:

  • Overview – Provides a general rundown of your competitor’s keywords
  • Movements – Describes the keyword activities of competitors
  • Suggested – Contains a list of suggested keywords

Think all you will get are basic keyword entries? Think again.

Along the same row, you can also glimpse at every keyword’s Relevance, Search Volume, Competition, and Cost Per Click details. Refer to the following image to know what I mean.

And as for the Affiliate category, it’s where you can get information about the tool’s affiliate program.  This includes a list of affiliate rules and the qualifications for referred users.

Competitors.app Review : Pros and cons

Here’s a list of the positives and negatives of the tool:

PRO: Loaded with useful features

It’s very usable and valuable. Where competitive analysis processes are concerned, it’s usually the only tool you’ll need.

Because it already offers an all-in-one solution, you won’t have a need for other tools.

CON: User interface and design could be better

Want something vibrant?

The user interface and design might not introduce distracting elements, which is a good thing. No distractions lead to improved focus.

However, it can be too simple for other people’s preference.

PRO: Time saver

On its website, you’ll encounter statements saying that five minutes is all it takes. True, with Competitors.app, you can perform a thorough competitive analysis in five minutes.

This is a big deal if you think about the time to go through the different areas of the web to gather essential information. Compared to manually analyzing your competitors, five minutes is a huge deal.

In fact, you can get this done faster — and end up saving more time. Let’s say you only have a single competitor to scrutinize. So, in this case, you can analyze relevant competitor reports for about two minutes.

CON: Additional features could be better

Competitors.app could introduce additional features.

For instance, it doesn’t feature a tracker for local keywords. If you’re focused on local SEO and retrieving the most effective local keywords, the tool might not help you as much.

PRO: Quick support

Having trouble in the middle of using Competitors.app? The good news is you can easily reach out to its support team via live chat.

Inform these people about your problem. And they can quickly help you resolve the issue.

And if you want someone to walk you through the whole process, you can arrange this setup. On its sidebar, you can easily request a 1-on-1 demo.

Summary

Overall, Competitors.app is an impressive tool that streamlines the competitive analysis process. I like how it helps me do my work easily and quickly

Monitoring my competitors takes a lot of work. The task I used to spend hours on is now the same task that I only allot a few minutes on.

And as you can notice from two aforementioned cons, its setbacks aren’t deal breakers. Instead, these are just minor improvements suggested by users.

According to these people, they would still use the tool no matter what — regardless of no future improvements.
